Quick answer
Go for the Wolf Centre if the weather is wet or cold. Go for the trails and the canopy tour in spring, summer and fall. The forest groups its activities by Spring/Summer/Fall, Winter and Year-Round, so check which list the activity sits on.
The Wolf Centre
The Wolf Centre is a 5,000 sq ft, all-indoor, wheelchair-accessible education centre. It has self-guided exhibits, a theatre, a classroom, a gift shop and indoor one-way-glass observation rooms that overlook the resident wolf pack’s enclosure.
Hours. From September 20, 2026 to June 18, 2027: Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. From June 19 to September 19, 2027: daily 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. Last admission is 30 minutes before close. Hours are altered on Monday October 19 (11 am to 1 pm). Weekend hours apply on listed holidays, and the centre is closed December 24 and 25.
Admission. Prices are plus tax, non-refundable and valid for the purchase date, and a receipt lets you step out and re-enter the same day. Adult (18+) $13.28; youth (6 to 17) $7.96; infants free; family $26.55; groups of 8 or more adults $10.62 each.
Viewing. You see the wolves only through indoor one-way glass, with no outdoor viewing. The forest says the wolves are not always visible, because the enclosure is just over 7 acres and a divider fence with open gates lets the wolves roam into the larger area. It says the wolves can come as close as 15 ft to the glass, and all photography is through the glass. Feeding is randomized every 5 to 10 days and is not publicized.
Time. Allow 45 to 60 minutes minimum, plus 20 to 45 minutes for the theatre film.
Wolf Howls. Public Wolf Howls run Thursdays in July and August: doors 7:30 pm, program 8:00 pm, no reservations, by donation, at the Seminar Building at Base Camp (1095 Redkenn Road) rather than the Wolf Centre.
Trails, biking and the canopy tour
The forest lists hiking trails, mountain biking trails and mountain bike rental, and a canopy tour bookable in spring, summer and fall. It gives no trail counts on its home page. Dysart et al lists the forest among its seasonal activities. Outdoor time beyond the Wolf Centre runs on a Spring/Summer/Fall Property Access Permit, which the forest books online; its home page lists no day-use prices, so check the booking page for the current rate.
Winter
The Wolf Centre has more than 13 km of winter snowshoe trails, though there is no wolf viewing from the trails. The forest’s winter pages link to snowmobile and winter ATV trails, guided snowmobile tours, guided ice fishing, ice climbing, snowshoe rentals and a poker run permit. The page we read gives no distances, prices or dates. Call 1-800-631-2198 for current details.
Planning a visit
Book the Wolf Centre around the hours, which are shorter on weekdays from September 20 to June 18: Monday to Friday 11:00 am to 3:00 pm, against 10:00 am to 4:30 pm on weekends. Last admission is 30 minutes before close, and the film adds 20 to 45 minutes to a visit of at least 45 minutes. A family of four pays $26.55 plus tax, which is the family price for two adults and two youth in the same household. Pair the centre with a short walk or a snowshoe on the 13 km of winter trails. Check the forest’s site for trail conditions on the day.
Events
The forest runs a Ghost Haunted Hike: adults (18+) $10, youth (12 to 17) $5.
