Quick answer: how to plan a Tobermory trip

Book before you drive. Parks Canada requires a parking reservation for the Grotto and Cyprus Lake area from May 1 to October 31, and the slots are four hours long.[5] Fathom Five National Marine Park and Bruce Peninsula National Park sit side by side, and the Municipality lists both as the main draws, along with the northern end of the Bruce Trail.[6]

Bruce Peninsula National Park

The park, at Cyprus Lake, protects cliffs of the Niagara Escarpment above Georgian Bay. The Municipality describes it as known for hiking, orchids, ferns and black bears.[7] Park trails include the Cyprus Lake Trail, Horse Lake Trail, Halfway Log Dump Trail, Singing Sands Boardwalk and Forest Beach Loop.[8]

Parking reservations. Parks Canada says the park is busy from mid-June to mid-September and on weekends from May through October, and it does not recommend travelling there without a confirmed reservation. Drop-offs are not allowed. From May 1 to October 31, the Grotto and Cyprus Lake area needs a reservation. Slots run 8 am to 12 pm, 9 am to 1 pm, 12 to 4 pm, 1 to 5 pm, 4 to 8 pm and 5 to 9 pm. When Grotto parking is fully booked, there is no Grotto access at that time.[9] Our Grotto guide covers the booking rules in detail.

Fathom Five National Marine Park

Fathom Five is at 120 Chi Sin Tib Dek Road in Tobermory. It includes the rock formations of Flowerpot Island and 24 shipwrecks for scuba diving, and backcountry camping is available on Flowerpot Island.[10] Check Parks Canada for boat tour operators, schedules and fees before you plan a day around the island.
