Baptiste Lake is about 10 minutes from downtown Bancroft, with about 36 miles of water for boating. Papineau Lake lies off Highway 62 North with a beach and launches. Hastings Highlands’ own pages do not mention Paudash Lake, so this guide lists no public access there; the provincial fishing summary names all three lakes.

Fishing: lake trout and the bait zone
Baptiste, Paudash and Papineau lakes all appear in the Zone 15 lake trout exceptions, which set their own trout rules on top of the zone-wide seasons; read each lake’s entry before you fish. Zone 15 includes Pembroke, Parry Sound, Huntsville and Bancroft, and it is part of the Central Bait Management Zone. Live or dead baitfish and leeches may not be carried into or out of it, unless they are both dead and preserved. Most anglers need an Outdoors Card and a fishing licence. Fish ON-Line maps species and rules by lake.
Boating and invasive species
A power boat on these lakes needs a driver with proof of competency, most often the Pleasure Craft Operator Card. Ontario waters have a federal 10 km/h limit within 30 metres of shore for power and electric boats, with exceptions for towing a skier straight out from shore and for canals, buoyed channels and rivers under 100 m wide. Hastings Highlands warns that mud, gravel, soil and plant material on vehicles and machinery can spread invasive species, and asks you to inspect and clean equipment. Report invasive plants at eddmaps.org or on the Invasive Species Hotline, 1-800-563-7711. The Province’s Lake Partner map shows Secchi depth and phosphorus readings for Lake Partner Program sites.
Papineau Lake
Hastings Highlands describes Papineau Lake as about 831 ha with a maximum depth of about 64 m, with about 25% Crown land around it and a large island, Davis Island, visible from almost anywhere on the lake. Papineau Beach sits on the southeast side, about 40 minutes from Bancroft. It is small with lots of shallow water, which the municipality calls great for families with little kids, and it has no facilities. It is day use only. The Town of Bancroft describes the Papineau beach at Maple Leaf as having a shallow entry and a sandy bottom.
Baptiste Lake
The Town of Bancroft puts Baptiste Lake about 10 minutes from downtown, with some 36 miles of water for boating and a public launch off South Baptiste Lake Road. Hastings Highlands lists its South Baptiste Lake launch at the end of Dock Road.
Lake association
Hastings Highlands keeps a community and cottage associations page. We did not confirm an association for each lake from it.
Before you book
Ask the host whether the cottage is on Baptiste, Paudash or Papineau, and which launch guests use. On Paudash, ask how guests reach the water, since the municipal pages we read list no public access there.
