Two different places carry the Bonnechere name in the Ottawa Valley. Bonnechere Provincial Park is an Ontario Parks campground at Round Lake near Killaloe. Bonnechere Caves is a separate attraction near Eganville, with guided underground tours. This guide covers both, and keeps them apart, because the caves are not part of the provincial park.

Paddling. Leisurely paddles run from the park to Jack’s Chute, about 3 km, past oxbows that Ontario Parks describes as habitat for turtles, fish, ducks and deer. A canoe route map for longer trips can be bought.
Swimming. The Main Beach is in the day-use area near the Park Store, on Round Lake, with buoys and shallow, gradual drop-offs. Mobi Mats give accessible water access, and water wheelchairs can be rented at the Park Store. There are no lifeguards. Pets are not allowed in the swimming area, and they can swim at the boat launch.
Fishing. The Bonnechere River and Round Lake offer largemouth and smallmouth bass, pumpkinseed, rock bass, pike, pickerel and lake trout. Most anglers need an Outdoors Card and a fishing licence.
Bonnechere Caves
Bonnechere Caves says it has welcomed visitors for over 65 years, and it runs underground tours of one hour. Each tour takes up to 25 other visitors and one young Tour Guide. Tours leave every 20 to 30 minutes, daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in season, and reservations are not needed, because tickets are sold first come, first served. Guided tours are the only way to see the underground passageways. The caves stay cool even on the hottest summer days, so bring a light sweater.
What to know.
- Wear low-heeled shoes.
- Photography is allowed.
- Leashed pets are allowed in the picnic area and on walking trails, not on the underground tours.
- The cave system is not stroller friendly. Carry infants in a snuggly or backpack carrier.
- A flashlight is optional but helpful for viewing walls and fossils.
The page mentions fossils throughout the caves and gives no age, and it lists no prices, so check the caves’ own site before you go.
Park rules to read
Bonnechere’s rules page says each vehicle needs a valid provincial park permit, digital or physical. Pets stay on a leash no longer than 2 metres, and the activities page keeps them out of the swimming area. Fireplaces are designated by park staff. Ask the park about drones.
